There’s got to be a better way!
I tried to make my own sugary twee hipster drawing, and this is the end result. Pretty happy with it.
For your reading: If you’re wondering what the creature in the drawing is, it is called a caddisfly. They’re an order of insects (Trichoptera) that live in streams, creeks, and other bodies of water. The adults look kind of like moths or brown and grey butterflies.
Upon deep reflection, I noticed a snail would also be a good choice for this illustration but I decided the caddisfly was better. The snail is simply born with its “home” and goes its whole life without worrying about it. The caddisfly on the other hand builds it out of items it finds in the environment it lives in. Caddisfly cases can range from intricate and ordered to a pile of rocks and sticks. And if you want to consider the caddisfly an allegory in this case for a person: we are not born with our homes, we create them out of the things we find in our daily life and struggle and no two are alike no matter how similar they may be. Probably way too much for a simple drawing. Oh well, what can you do about it?
If you have even more time to waste and are interested, here’s an artist who used the caddisfly’s unique skill to make pieces of art: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jID1_GwxiE0
Really, really good. The Great Gatsby could have tried harder and done something like this instead of leaving it up to Jay-Z.
You really know when something’s up, don’t you?
Some of it is Karen, some of it is feelings.
Are we hip again?
